    Lt. John Arnold
    1782 - 1863
Lt. John Arnold was born in King George County, Virginia on May 19, 1782, almost 228 years from today. He was the child of William and Jemima Arnold. His grandfather, Isaac Arnold Sr. and his Great Grandfather, Thomas Arnold, were among the early settlers of the Northern Neck of Virginia. The year after his birth, the colonies and Great Britain signed the Treaty of Paris, recognizing America's independence from the Crown, which ended the Revolutionary War.
John was 6 years old when the United States Constitution was ratified and 9 years old when the United States Bill of Rights was ratified.
John Arnold's first marriage was to Mary Jane Humphries on June 10, 1800. He and his wife, Mary Jane, had 7 children who reached maturity, namely William A. Arnold, Isaac Arnold, Jane H. Arnold, James Arnold, John Humphries Arnold, Mary Arnold and Martha Arnold. Mary Jane died on August 7, 1819 and is buried here in the family cemetery.
On April 27, 1820, John married Frances Buckner Price. She was the daughter of John Price Jr. and Elizabeth Gaddes, residents of King George County. John and Frances had 7 children to reach maturity, namely Sarah Buckner Arnold, Mark Arnold, Elizabeth Gaddes Arnold, Jemima Arnold , Mary Frances Arnold, Thomas Thornton Arnold and Philip Arnold. Frances Buckner Price died on February 9, 1851 and is also buried here in the cemetery.
Within a year after Fannie's death, John (we assume since he was very lonely with no one around to keep him company except his many kids) remarried a third time to Jane Went on January 29, 1852. She was the daughter of James and Jane Kenyon Went, who were also residents of King George County, Virginia. This marriage produced no children.
According to John's tombstone, which reads "father of 20 children", it is assumed that 6 children between the two wives did not survive childhood. The 14 mature children of John Arnold married into many prominent families within the Northern Neck area. To this day the number of descendants of John Arnold are to numerous too fathom.
Noted family surnames are Burgess, DeAtly, Perry, Peed, Posey, Price, Massey, Montgomery, Rice, Whaling, Mountjoy and Brockenbrough .
