    In the name of God Amen; the one and thirtieth daye of march in the year of our God 1626, and in the Second yere of the raigne of our souvaryne lord Charles by the grace of God King of England Scotland --- and Ireland defender of the faith. I John Allen of Kempston in the contye of Bedford and in the dowses of -- beinge of wohle mynde and in good and ffit remembr-- prayse be unto allmightie god do make and ordayne this my presente testamente contaeyninge here in my last well in manare and forme following: ffirst I do commende my soule unto Allmightie God my maker and redeemer and my bodye to be buried in the church yard of All Hallows [All Saints] in Kempston a foresaid.

    Item I geve and bequeeth unto James Allen my sonne and to his heirs forever all that my messuage [dweeling house] and -- with all the appertenances threunto belonging the -- I now dwell in lying and being in Eastend of Kempston -- the parsoneage grande. Excepte the east end of my dwelling house that is to say the two chambers and the lofts over them. The two chambers with the lofts over them I geve and bequeeth unto George Allen my younger sonne and his heires with this condition tha thtey shall not sell them away to anye other partie but to his brother James Allen and his heires geveing for them ---

    All the rest of my goode and chattells moveable and unmovable, my debts payed my buriall and my wifes that was discharged I geve and bequeeth unto James Allen, George Allen and Alice Willsere my three children to be equally devided between them all. And I make and ordane James Allen my son my whole executor...
