Facts and Events
The Reich family originally comes from Furnsal. According to the church records there, the ancestors of the Reich farmers of this place include Johannes Reich, farmer, born February 19, 1657 at Furnsal. In 1681 he married Salome, the widow of Michael Everhar, who owned the "Brafen Hof" at Betzweiller. After his wife's death, he married Eva, nee Weigold, in 1692. The couple died in 1740. [Update to the Chronicle of the Reich Family at Betzweiler - Mayor Jackle (ret), December 18, 1938] The family name Reich appears in the documents of the town registrar [at Betzweiler, Germany] for the first time in the "Holy Accounting" (church census) of 1601/02. It is entered that 30 Kreuzer (coins used at that time) were donated to the church at Johannes Reich's marriage. Johannes Reich was later owner of half of a feudal estate. It is assumed, but not proved, that the father "Alt (old) Hans Jorg Reich" ceded the farm to his son, when the latter was married. If this son was 25 years old at the time, he must have been born toward the end of the 1650/60 decade. Johannes Reich was married -- for the first time -- around 1682 to Salome, nee Staigerin von Weyler, Hornberger Oberamts, and when she died, around 1692, he married his second wife Eva, nee Weygoldin. She died "8 weeks before March 7, 1740. Her husband followed her "5 weeks" later. ID # 31 in Family Tree. [Chronicle of the Reich Family at Betzweiler - Mayor Jackle, November, 30, 1903] |
