Confusion Over Her (or Her Husband's) Date of Death

McCracken

"Timothy, b. ca. 1637, d. 13 Jan. 1713/4, m. 28 Dec. 1664, Johanna Birdsey, b. Stratford. 18 Nov. 1642, d. there, according to the record, Aug. 1713, daughter of John and Philippa (Smith) Birdsey. Mr. Jacobus pointed out that the recorded date of her death is probably wrong, as inventory on her estate was taken on 9 Feb. 1710/11, and on 7 Oct. 1713 Johanna was reported dead without having completed administration of her husband's estate, and Robert Walker and Joseph Hawley were made administrators. Her will, dated 4 Aug. 1713, seems to support the recorded date of death. Timothy was a deacon."[6]

Jacobus

"Born abt. 1637; Deacon Timothy [Wilcoxson] d. at Stratford, 13 Jan. 1713 [1713/4]. Apparently the date should be 1710/1. Inv. 9 Feb. 1710/1; widow Johanna. On 7 Oct. 1713, it was reported that Joanna had died without completing adm'n of husband Timothy's Est.; and Robert Walker and Joseph Hawley were appointed. Will of Johanna, widow of Timothy, 4 Aug. 1713; gr. child Phebe Fairchild, dau. of son-in-law Joseph Fairchild, late of Stratford dec'd; gr. dau. Sarah Fairchild; daus. (not named) ; residue to children of son Joseph Fairchild and Johanna his wife, now both dec'd."[7]

Conclusion

It appears that Mr. McCracken misinterpreted what Mr. Jacobus had written. It seems reasonably clear that Jacobus is saying that while Timothy Wilcoxson's death, as stated in the Stratford vital records, occurred in 1713/14, his inventory was taken 9 February 1710/11 and Johanna was the widow. She then executed her own will on 4 August 1713 and died on or before 7 August 1713 when administration on her husband's estate was then granted to Robert Walker and Joseph Hawley, husbands of two of the daughters of Deacon Timothy and Johanna (Birdsey) Wilcoxson.
