George Kobernus, Traverse City MI - GKobernus@@aol.com - Was a great help in this search ---- Oct. 23, 2001 - From George ----------- Linda, I think the name of Minnie's father's village is Goslin but I'm not sur There is a Goslin in Poland near Posan but it's a pretty good distance from Guetzkow in Pommerania. Worth a look maybe. I've aske my friend in Germany to look at your document. Here is the LDS Library reference. Kirchenbuch, 1776-1794 Authors Evangelische Kirche Murowana-Goslin (Kr. Obornik) (Main Autho Protestant parish register of baptisms, marriages and deaths for Murowa Goslin, Posen, Germany; now Murowana Goslina (Oborniki), Poznan, Poland. Incluces Boduszewo, Gleboczek, Goslinka, Huta, Msciszewo, Plawno, Podzamcze, Rakownia, Trojanowo, Zielonka. Christening, marriages, deaths 1776-1794 FHL INTL Film 746968 Item 1 I think the film you want for the Passenger list is Direct Lists 1857 Feb-Dec ------------------- 0470839 Let me know when you get this in. I'd like to see it. George Kobernus, Traverse City MI

I also think at this point I may consider the help of a professional in the area to be searched. Let me know and I can steer you in the right direction. He operates by e-mail and takes US checks. His English is excellent.

Rethinking the letter to Guetzkow, you may want to modifiy it to ask for the marriage of Karl and Carolina and any other information regarding the Moldt family. George Kobernus, Traverse City MI

Oct. 25, 2001 From George -------------- My suggestion is that you first go through the film for Guezkow and the passenger records first. Then you can give the parish pastpr and any researcher a better idea of what you've already done. It will probably save you money. I think any Moldt in the parish/village film regardless of t year will probably be related to you. The passenger film might give you some idea of any other people from the village that travelled on the same ship and maybe some other information. I'd be glad to go over the film with you, George Kobernus, Traverse City MI

Oct. 25, 2001 - From George ------------- Here is a sample letter. You can get others from the German handout at the Church. Keep it simple. Your village is actually in Pomerania. West Pomerania (Vorpommern) to be exact. Random thoughts: I have the name of a professional researcher in Germany that I've used. He's very reasonable and honest. He did quite a bit a research for me on a tough problem and only charged me $50.00. He works on a "do not exceed" basis. I told him to not exceed $100 and he charged me $50 for a couple of hours in the archives. So this might be another choice to check before sending a letter. The pastor will probably only give you what you ask for and sometimes they can't read the old script either. Of course, I'd still send for the film on Guetzkow as it may have informationion on your family even though it does not cover Minnie's birth years. Many people I correspond with use him but he's a specialist in Mecklenburg and your Guetzkow is in Pomerania. It's possible that he can do the research for you it does not cost anything to ask. Also he may know of someone w does Pomerania research. If you have not done much research on Germany I'd check some of the internet links - the best I know of is Carol Bowen's page. You can get it by checking my page at:

Click on the Research Tips link on the left I'll keep looking for the exact stree address of the Guetzkow Ev Luth Church but I don't think it will be necessary. George Kobernus, Traverse City MI
