Manistee Advocate; February 15, 1895 Death of Joseph Salway - Died at his home in Onekama, on Monday and his remains were buried on Tuesday. (Pg. 5) Manistee Daily News - 1910 - Death of Mrs. Salloway; (Pg 5) Apr. 22,- Mrs. Salloway died at her home just south of the fair grounds last Saturday night. Mrs. Salloway was " this line can't read" religon. The funeral occured on Tuesday morning from the Congregational church and was attended by a large concouise of people who testified to their esteem for the aged pioneer. Rev. Mr. Lines officiated at the service.

She was 85 years old. Born in Manistee Aug. 25, 1864, she lived her entire life in this vicinity. She was the foster daughter of Joseph and Mary Salway. On July 22, 1884 she was married to Stephen Jones. To this couple eight children were born, three of whom died in infancy. A son Adelbert, died 5 years ago and a son Eugene died two years ago. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Olive Hendrickson of Onekama; two sons, William of Manistee and Joseph of Onekama; 11 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. The body, now at the Bennett funeral home at Bear Lake, will be taken to the Jones residence in Onekama tomorrow noon and funeral services will be conducted there at 2 pm by Rev. Anthony Nelson. Burial will take place in Onekama township cemetery. |
