Facts and Events
Born: PROBABLY in Gravenwiebach, Ger. (near Wetzler). Early researchers give 1681. It is also thought that he was born about 1689 in Illstein, Pfalz (Bavaria), Germany. This is then changed to Idstein! Helene Mooty, in her book on Andrew Wellington Finck and his ancestors, cites her Louck source as Elaine Loucks Restad, 244 Glen More Drive, Coraopolis, PA 15108. She has published a Loucks Family Genealogy. Information on Johann and possible father, Thonges Laux, appears highly speculative. Name: Elaine Restad says that "Johann was prefix used, and Most Palatine men went by their second name or a combination of thetwo names. Johann Dietrick Laux is referred to almost always as DIETRICH LAUX. There is a possiblity that Dietrich was the son of the shepherd Johann Thonges Laux. This family was based in Gravenwiesbach." Record: " Dietrich was in New York in 1710 as his name is on the lists of those Palatines receiving subsistence from Gov. Hunter in return for their work on the naval stores project in the West Camp area of NY. In this list, he is first listed as having one dependent under the age of 10; in the second list there are only two adults." This is again from E. Restad based on the Subsistence List. She says his name is not in the Simmendinger Register. From the second survey in Mohawk Valley, 1733: Dietrich was given lots 35, 74, and 75, each of 100 acres. References
