Johan Kabel arrived in Philadelphia on the Ship Albany, Robert Brown, Master, from Rotterdam (with a stopover at Cowes, England) on Saturday, September 2, 1749. The passengers are said to number 285 from Erbach, Wurtemburg. Listed in the Oaths of Allegience record as Johan Michel Kabel, Sen. (Strassburger & Hinke, PA German Pioneers, Ruff, 30,000 Names...). Also in this record are his son Johan Michael Kabel and Hans Cabel, both shown as sick.

He and his family settled in the Goshenhoppen area of upper Hanover Twp., Montgomery Co., PA. They attended St. Paul's Lutheran Church, also known as the 'Six Cornered Church' because of its design. The church is near Red Hill between Route 29 and Kings Highway near Macoby Creek.

With him were other families that had also arrived on the Albany. The heads of these families were: Nickel Heist, Johan Philip Heist, Johan Peter Heist, Johan Adam Kirchbaum, Adam Lautenschlager, Hans Martin Strein, Johan Adam Heckman and Adam Edelman. This group presumably emigrated together from the same location in Germany. This is probably Pfaffen-Beerfurth in the Odenwald, a small village near Reichelsheim, which is between Heidelberg and Darmstadt. The town of Erbach is about eight kilometers southeast of Reichelsheim. There is a memorial in the St. Paul's church records noting the gift of a pewter container for use in communion by one Johann Nicolaus Heist, son of Hans Peter Heist, that notes his birthplace in that village.
