    Following info from "Gobble Family Genealogy" by James Sargent Gobble and a report prepared Charles Seifert, 2/97 email

    Johann Frederick Gobble Jr. was baptized on Oct 17 1734 in Offenbach, Duchy of Zweibruecken, the Pfalz, Germany. Immigrated on Aug 27 1739 on the ship "Samuel" to Montgomery Co, PA, prob with parents and siblings (also in PA German Pioneers, Ralph Strassburger, 1934, p.263). He owned land on Oct 7 1767 in Baltimore Co, MD. Surveyor's record of Fincastle Co (now Washington co), VA shows a survey Dec 23 1774 for Frederick Gobble of 32 acres on the north side of North Fork of Holston River; patent granted Apr 20 1782 and signed by Patrick Henry, Governor of VA. The location of Gobble home is reported to have been on the south side of North Fork about 2 miles upstream from present river crossing of US Hwy 19.

    Frederick died intestate about 1791, appraisal of personal propety est. 59 pounds, 16 shillings or $199.33. items listed was books dutch and English.

    After deaths of Frederick and Elizabeth, the 5 sons sold their father's land in 1799 to Jacob Mongle (Mungle), the husband of their sister Mary.

    His family attended Old Goshenhoppen Luthern Church, church records ended in 1762, probably when they moved to Maryland. Most of the land records in Maryland, beigin 1765 and end by 1785. Frederick Gobble Jr. bouth 50 acres, Friendship Compleated, from Isaac Deheven in October 1767, next to Good Fellowship and near Little Pipe Creek.

    Husband of Elizabeth Weigel, from Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. She was a daughter of Johann George Weigel and Anna Ditlich who were living in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania.

    Johannes Fredrick Gobble and spouse, Elizabeth, left Pennsylvania, between 1761 and 1766 to the colony of Maryland. Then between 1771 and 1775, the family headed south along the Great Wagon Road down the Shenandoah Valley to the sparsely populated mountain region towards the Holston River Valley. Settling in Washington County, where they had three more children.
