Per Darcy's review of the church records, where there are additional notations for this man's death entry, "The French army was in quarters there, and someone gave a shot for joy and poor Nicholas was hit. He was found with a bullet in his head. A great number of people were present at his burial. He was 19 and married." Turns out he was shot and killed the day of his wedding. Bummer.
