Facts and Events
1860 US census: 12th ward, Cincinnati, Hamilton Co., OH: John Albert, 36, cooper, b. Bavaria Mary - , 26, b. Prussia George, 3, b. Ohio Mary, 7 months, b. Ohio 1870 US Census: South half of 18th ward, Cincinnati, Hamilton County, OH; date census was taken: 9 July 1870: Albert, John, 46 [therefore b. abt. 1824], occupation: cooper; b. Bavaria [which more than likely meant Rheinbayern, politically aligned with what we think of today as Bavaria, but physically located west of the Rhine River and Frankfurt.] John is doing well; he has real estate valued at $3500 and personal property valued at $1000. Mary, 36 [therefore b. abt. 1834], keeping house, born Prussia. This is the only discrepancy; a family source had provided the name "Amelia". She might have been Mary Amelia... But given how many other pieces fit, I still think this family is "ours". George, 13 [therefore b. abt. 1857], at school; born OH Lena, 10 [b. abt. 1860], at school, b. OH ["Lena" is frequently seen as a nickname for "Magdalena," the name provided by a family member.] Henry, 8 [b. abt. 1862], at school, b. OH Mary, 6 [b. abt. 1865], at school, b. OH John, 4 [b. abt. 1866], b. OH Notice that there's a John Albert, 28 at the very bottom of the page; he's also a cooper. He might be a cousin of this John Albert, above. I cannot find any of this family anywhere in the 1880 census. References
