One account of this family relates that he began the American Revolution in the militia, but then deserted and disappeared until after the war was over. Upon his return he was driven out of the family and community because of this desertion. The account speculates that he may have joined his brother, Anthony, at the Niagara frontier. He is believed to have served in the corps of Rangers at Niagara, 30 Nov 1783, and is mentioned in the story, "The Indians," published in 1846 & 1965 at page 63.
