Facts and Events
Tradition has it that during the American Revolution sons John and Alexander were in the woods looking after horses when they were captured and taken prisoner by Indians of the Six Nations, and carried off to Canada. After being held for 2 or 3 years, they were exchanged for other prisoners at Niagara and returned home where they were received as if from the dead. About 1782/3 they persuaded their father, Anthony, to return to the site of their imprisonment, and so settled with the whole family on Fairchild's Creek in Brant County, Ontario. Another story says that the father, Anthony Westbrook, was a Tory and a member of Joseph Brant's war party in 1779. References
