In the 1900 census, Joel is said to be born Jan 1856, but several of Claiborne's children have had trouble pinpointing their birth year. In 1860 Joel was abt 2 years old so I have used abt 1858 as a birth year. From 1860 through 1900 census records said he was born in Mississippi; but 1910 - 1930 census records have said he was born in Alabama. Possibly his parents gave the earlier info and his second wife gave the later info; so I have used Mississippi. Joel was widowed by the 1900 census and I do not know the first wife's name.

In 1900 Joel was in McNairy Co. Tennessee, the same county as his brother Berry. But Berry was in Civil Dist 5. In the above 1930 census, Joel is living next hh to William L Jackson and his wife Lillie, and also to Allen G. Jackson and his wife Lois. So far I have not found a connection to either William L. or Allen G.
