Joanna Cooper was born in 1875 at Hebburn in County Durham, daughter of Isabella Cooper, formerly Thompson, and her husband Joseph Cooper, a shipwright. She appears in each census from 1881 to 1911 living at Hebburn with her parents.

In 1893, aged 18, Joanna married a man named Mark Longford or Langford. They had one child together who died young. Mark was not at home with Joanna in either the 1901 or 1911 censuses.

Joanna has yet to be researched after 1911.
