Joan Hirschfeld Shoemaker passed away April 14. She was born in Lakewood, Ohio, to Franz and Florence Hirschfeld, who preceded her in death. She graduated in 1951 from Purdue University, where she was a part of Alpha Chi Omega. She married William E. Shoemaker on Dec. 26, 1951. He survives. Joan lived in Zionsville for many years with her husband. She taught science at Zionsville and Carmel Clay middle schools.
She was a 4-H project leader and judge at the county and state levels. Joan is survived by her husband; her children, her grandchildren, and many other family and friends.
Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, April 18, at Myers Mortuary in Lebanon. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, with burial in Mts. Run Cemetery in Zionsville to follow. She will be missed by many. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Zionsville Hussey Memorial Library or Christ Lutheran Church in Zionsville.
