Some claim that John Lake of Irby-upon-Humber has ancestors in Normanton, Yorks. This is based on Sir Edward Lake's will where he wrote that the herald told him that but he did not know whether to believe it or not.
It is well known that at that time heralds connected new armigers to old families without proof in order to increase their fee. Hence it is unlikely the Normanton - Irby connection existed. There is no real proof.
