Obituary for Jewell Pearl Clark, WWII Veteran & Railroad Engineer

Jewell Pearl Clark, 90, of Wildwood, Florida, went to be with Lord Jesus on Thursday, December, 30th, 2010, at 7:55 AM. He was surrounded by family members when his spirit left his body and entered eternal life. Born in Delta, Alabama on Flag Day, June 14, 1920, he was the son of the late Louis Britt Clark and Elizabeth Victoria (Sprayberry) (Parmer) Clark. Jewell was a WWII Veteran with the US Army Quartermaster Corps and served from 1940-1945 in Camp Blanding, Florida and the 634th Quartermasters in England; France and Germany. On July 15, 1946 in Wildwood, Florida, he married Sarah Kathryn Phillips, who went to be with our Lord in 1984. Jewell, known to his railroad buddies as "Mini Pearl", was an engineer for the Seaboard Airline Railroad for 35 years, retiring in 1981. He attended the Assembly of God Church in Wildwood and Oxford. Jewell was a God loving Christian, loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend. He was loved by all that knew him and was known in the community as "Pa Clark". He was an avid wood craftsman specializing in his shelves and picture frames. Jewell and Kathryn loved fishing the Waccasassa River. Jewell was preceded in death by his wife of 38 years; his mother (1923); his father (1968); his paternal grandparents, William Henry Clark (1917) and Martha Ann (Garrigus) Clark (1942); his maternal grandparents, Wiley Harmon Sprayberry (1936) and Sara Mize (Sanders) Sprayberry (1922); five brothers: Fornegay Parmer, Jr. (1911), Marshall Lee Clark (1967), Cecil Roy Clarke, Sr. (1997), Lewis Guice Clark (2008), Walter Lee Clarke (2010); an infant sister (1929); his stepmother, Ethel (Weemes) Clark (1979) and a grandson, Nathan Stokes (1987). He is survived by three daughters, Mary Bennett (Pete) of Wildwood, Janice Stokes (Bill) of Coleman, June Clark of Lake Weir; two sons, Danny Clark (Darlene) of Woodstock, GA and Joel Dennis Clark, Sr. (Sandy) of Houtzdale, PA; one sister, Regina Dobbs of Covington, GA and three brothers, Dean Clark (Edith) of College Park, GA; Eugene Clark of Fayetteville, GA and Donald Clark (Shirley) of Alpharetta, GA. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, Steven, Brian, Kristie, Anita, Melody, Alisha, Christopher, Katie, Philip, Gabriel, Colleen and Joel, Jr.; 9 great grandchildren, Morgan, Ashley, Leah, Tristan, Skylar, Sara, Sophia, Joshua and Tyson and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Visitation and services were held at Banks-Page-Theus Funeral Chapel in Wildwood. Interment with military honors held at Oak Grove Cemetery, Wildwood, Florida with military honors.
