OBITUARY: "Shelton-Mason County Journal" of Thursday, February 18, 1954 Shelton, Mason County, Washington Jessie Grisdale Noted Pioneer Dies in Hospital Mrs. Jessie Knight Grisdale, prominent Mason County pioneer who had served as postmaster in Shelton for 26 years, died last Thursday at a local hospital following a long illness. Mrs. Grisdale, 76, had been a resident of Mason County since she was a small girl. Born April 5, 1877, in Michigan, she migrated here with her parents when she was five or six years old. Before taking the job as postmaster, Mrs. Grisdale taught school in this county. Her husband William and his brother George, both served in the past as supervisor of Simpson's logging camp. Camp Grisdale received that name after the death several years ago of George Grisdale. Mrs. Grisdale was a life member of the Eastern Star. She served as secretary of that organization for 20 years. She was also Mother Advisor of the Rainbow Girls in Shelton for many years. Surviving relatives in Shelton include her husband, who lives at the family home, 628 Birch Street, and a step-daughter, Mrs. Gertrude Pauley. Other relatives, including several cousins in Seattle and Los Angeles, also survive her. Rev. Robert Shaw conducted the funeral services which were held last Saturday morning from Witsiers Funeral Home. Burial followed in the Shelton Memorial Park. Pallbearers were Charles R. Lewis, Alden Bayley, Joe Hansen, Hal Grant, Eugene Taylor and Dr. B. N. Collier.
