Jesse Yocum was born on 31 March 1764, in Augusta, Virginia, British Colonial America, his father, Matthias Yoakum, was 29 and his mother, Hannah Dixon, was 24. He married Diana Savage Denton on 22 May 1787, in Mercer, Kentucky, United States. They were the parents of at least 8 sons and 7 daughters. He lived in St. Landry, Louisiana, United States in 1810 and Washington, Kentucky, United States in 1830. He registered for military service in 1812. He died in 1838, in Natchitoches, Louisiana, United States, at the age of 74.
