About Jesse Swinger
Jesse Swinger was born abt. 1846 in Ohio, likely in Monroe Township, Darke County, where his family had migrated from Indiana prior to the 1850 U.S. Census which was recorded in November 1850.
Jesse Swinger, (listed as a resident of Fairfield, Indiana), enlisted as a Private on 29 January 1864 and served with Company A, 130th Indiana Infantry Regiment (Source: American Civil War Soldiers), and gave his life for his country when he died from his wounds at Marietta, Georgia in action on 1 September 1864 in the final battle of the "Atlanta Campaign", between the Confederate Forces of Lt. Gen. William Hardee and Gen. Oliver Howard's Union Army, a battle that was won by the Union when they defeated the Confederate Army in Atlanta setting the stage for Gen. William T. Sherman's "March to the Sea", hastening the end of the war.
Jesse Swinger was buried in the Marietta National Cemetery in Marietta, Cobb County, Georgia, where a gravestone was erected in his honor for his military service and ultimate sacrifice for his country.
