BIRTH: Believed to have been born about 1783 in Connecticut.
Possible birthdate - 4 Jun 1757, 18 Apr 1782 OR 15 Sep 1783 New Milford, Litchfield, Connecticut, USA

MARRIAGE: He married about 1810 and he disappeared after wife Mary's death in 1819

MARRIAGE: Bruce Brandenburg (born2nd@comcast.net) lists a Jesse Camp and a marriage with Lucretia Hosford on 18 Sep 1814 but that would be while he was still married to Mary since she didn't die until 1819. It is possible that as a "Riverboat Man" he might have been a scoundral and married a second time while still married to Mary.

    OCCUPATION: Riverboat Man

    Dear Mr. Camp
Thank you for your reply to my query. My gr.gr. grandfather was Edward Camp who married Charlotte Taylor as widow Hubble. They had three children, one son, name unknown, John French Camp, Sophia Jane Camp. I am descended from John French.
I believe Edwards’s father was Jesse Camp, born 6/41757 to David Camp of New Milford and Deborah Bolt of Norwalk. I have a copy of the actual registry from New Milford. Jesse seems to have married Anah Sherwod, Jan. 4, 1774 and a Miss Mellor 11/14/1774. Jesse was in the Conn . census of 1800 and 1810, but not after 1810. There is a Jesse Camp in 1820, and 1830 in Alexander Township, Athens Co. Ohio. He died in 1833 at 76 years of age. Undoubtedly, the same man as son of David and Deborah Camp.
There are several connections which indicate that he was the father of Edward Camp, born c.1800 in Conn. What I lack is any proof. I have written to the Conn. State Library and although I have records of several land transfers between Jesse and his father and later brother David, other than the census’ which don’t name the children, I don’t know the names of any of his children. This is what I would like to find out.
If you have any knowledge of Jesse’s children, I would be most grateful. It is clear who Jesse’s parents were, and that a Samuel Camp, mason, was the father of David Camp. I don’t know Samuel’s wife’s name. There are several Samuel Camps who were founders of New Milford Conn. It is also difficult to figure out who Samuel Camp;s parents were. Again, any information you may have would be most helpful.
