Facts and Events
From History of Dekalb County, IN on Mason Morgan Bowen Jeremiah Bowen, his wife and six children and an outfit of two teams, one of horses the other a yoke of oxen, loaded with the needful articles of household furniture and some other necessary implements on the wagon and turned to face toward what was at the time considered the far west. The journey made in the face of many obstacles, not the least of which was the almost impassable condition of the roads and many places where there were no roads at all, was necessarily very slow and attended with difficulties, some of which were well nigh unsurmountable. Nearly six weeks were required to make the trip, but at last, on the 7th of May 1830, the little town of Fort Wayne was reached and there Mr. Bowen and family took up their temporary residence. Joseph Bowen appointed guardian for Jeremiah in August 1798, Jeremiah listed as being under age 12. William Wilcuts appointed guardian for Jeremiah May 16, 1799, Jeremiah listed as being under age 12. Jeremiah Bowen bought land in Marietta, Washington County, OH 2/14/1815. |
