Daniel Champion says that his grandmother used to tell about going to seeUncle Jep with the long beard when she was a young girl and how he kiddedher about her new Red Goose boots. He told her he was going to get themwhen she went to sleep and she would not take them off that night.
Lena Spruiell once told Daniel that Jep's father made him start shavingwhen he was only 12 and so when he became a man of his own, he stoppedshaving and never did again.
Jep Spruiell was about the last of the Spruiells to farm down at WolfCreek. He finally joined several of his brothers in Leeds. After thedeath of his wife, he lived with his youngest brother Simon Spruiell andhis second wife, Lena Spruiell.
