    "Mrs. Jan Scholten

Wednesday afternoon at the home of Mrs. A. J. Scholten, of Hull, Mrs. John Scholten succumbed to the inevtable following an operation for tumor of the stomach. She was operated on Tuesday by Dr. Maris, of Hull and a specialist of Sioux City and all that loving hands and care could do was done but to no avail and she quietly slipped from them in the afternoon of the next day. Deceased was a resident of Boyden. She was born in Zutphen, Netherlands in 1853 and was 64 years old at the time of her death. She came to this country with her husband in 1878 and first lived for several years on farms near Alton. Several years ago they moved to Boyden and operated a large farm, where she lived until a few days before her death. She leaves to mourn her loss 9 children besides her husband, 1 sister and 1 brother here and 3 brothers and 1 sister in the old country.

Deceased was well known here and often visited friends and relatives in the city. The funeral took place at Boyden from the home at 11 o'clock this Friday, Rev. P. Jonker, of the Christian Reformed church of Hull, having charge of the services and interment was made in Nassau township cemetery at Alton. The bereaved family are extended sincere sympathy in their time of bereavement."
