On the 1881 Census Harold Spens BLACK, aged 22, civil engineer, born in Baldernock, lived at Stockbrigg House, Lesmahagow, Lanarkshire, the house of William James Martin (b.1854 Paisley, Renfrewshire), a civil engineer, and William’s mother, Jane Martin (b. 1814 Glasgow). Jane was Jane Sharp, wife of William Martin (IGI), and probably Jean Sharp (b. 10may1813 Glasgow IGI), daughter of James Sharp and Jean Adair.
