Facts and Events
Benjamin BARTON married (1) Jean PATERSON 10 jul 1785 (IGI) or 11jul1785 (family bible) in Glasgow. Jean was daughter of Benjamin PATERSON and Margaret MCLYMONT. Jean died 17jun1789 at North Woodside House (family bible). Benjamin Paterson of Ballaird, Ayrshire, died before 1785 (family bible); his father Benjamin Paterson owned Ballaird and Glentig and he had a brother, Fergus Paterson, who owned Ballaird in 1764 (family letters). Ballaird is in the parish of Colmonell, Ayrshire. According to “A directory of Landownership in Scotland c. 1770” lands at Ballantrae, Ayrshire, worth 185 pounds, 16 shillings and 8 pence, were owned by Benjamin Paterson of Glentig. His name does not occur in connection with Colmonell property. Ballaird had been bought by Benjamin Paterson, a London merchant, from Alexander Kennedy in 1631 (family letters). In Scottish archives there is the will of Fergus PATERSON of Ballaird, dated 1739 who is undoubtedly an antecedant of Jean. References
