Jean Aubin...had come with the Seigneur Michel Leneuf de la Valliere, and become one of the richest man [sic] of the little colony [Beaubassin]. He had married in 1679 Anne Dugas, the widow of a military surgeon, and would have probably ended his days there in peace and comfort had not Colonel Church, a New Englander, raided the place in 1704, and practically destroyed it, in retaliation, it is said, of the Rouville's attack on Deerfield, and Jean Aubin returned to Quebec and made his home at Kamouraska."

Witnesses: Mr. de la VALLIERE, knight, seigneur of Beaubassin and commandant for the king in Acadia; Mr. Abraham DUGAST, father of the widow; Claude DUGAST, the widow's brother. [The Commandant had also witnessed a wedding 2 days before, to another local widow and a Frenchman. Were these at his instigation?]
