!MILITARY-CENSUS: Appendix V, ACADIAN COAST; 23 Jan 1770; from Legajo 161, Churchill pp. 291-296; p 91; Salt Lake City; in French, consists of a roll of men in the First Company of the militia of the Acadian Coast, LA. Baptiste BERGERON, age 19, from Acadia, a bachelor, lives 2 1/4 leagues from the meeting place. His is the last name among the Fusileers living on the Right Bank.

!LAND-CENSUS: Mrs. Stephen Roy Campbell (Marie Pilkington), "Bergeron and Arceneaux and Other Families," in NEW ORLEANS GENESIS; vol. 8, no. 30 (Mar 1969); p. 111. On the 1766 census of Cabahanoce (St. James, LA), Jean Baptiste BERGERON, Sr. was living on Sec. 64, in Welcome. Among children we find: Marin; Marie; Mathurin; Jean Baptiste, Jr. (born 1750, died 1806). Jean Jr. acquired Sec. 35, which was located on the upper end of what became "Welcome Plantation." In 1755 [sic, should be 1775] he married Marie FOREST, and son Michael was born in 1776. Michael became owner of Sec. 63, land below his father's.

    "Détachement qui a ete arretter le Bateau du P. duBreuil." List made at Cabahannoces on 17 Jun 1777 by Michel Cantrelle included Baptiste Damboises, a corporal, resident of Cabahannoces who marched "jour et nuit" and traveled with two others from his area to join with 13 others from La Fourche, to go on this expedition.

    Stored in Drawer 19, in the Hill Library Reading Room, LSU. Listed on the Acadian Memorial's Ensemble Encore webpage as "Detachment that captured Mr. duBreuil's Boat."
