Arrival in Louisiana

It is believed that Jean Baptiste Rodrigue came to the German Coast of Louisiana (present-day St. Charles and St. John the Baptist parishes) between 1760 and 1763, toward the end of the French and Indian War.[13]

Louisiana (1763-1784)

Marriage to Maria Josefa Dervain

Rodrigue married Maria Josefa Dervain (1747-1784), the daughter of Rene Dervain and Anne Marie Conrad Frederick, on 1 June 1763. The couple had 12 known children: Doroté, Jean Francois, Francoise Ursule, Marie Josephe (Josette), Louis, Alexis, Jean Rene, Agnes, Angelique, Pierre, Jean Charles and Gabriel.

John Baptiste and Marie Josephe settled in the Louisiana German Coast, an area so named because of the many Germans who originally settled there. He owned and cultivated about 305 acres on the west bank of the Mississippi River and was a prominent member of the community.[13]
