BURLINGTON — Mr. Jay Cline Coble, 83, of 300 Trail 8, died at 2:10 a.m., Sunday, April 28, 2002, at his residence after a lengthy illness. He was a native of Guilford County and the son of the late Harvey Coble and the late Cora Shoffner Coble. He was retired from AT&T after 37 years of service. He was a member of Macedonia Lutheran Church and a former Sunday school teacher. He was a master gardener and enjoyed woodcarving. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Mrs.. Helen Williams Coble of the home; one daughter, Mrs.. Marie C. Runkle of Fayetteville; one son, Mr. Jay Cline Coble Jr.. of Tampa, Fla.; three brothers, Mr. Cliff W. Coble of Burlington, Mr. George L. Coble of Julian and Mr. John Norman and three grandsons. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mrs.. Belle Coble Holt and Mrs.. Nell Coble Hofer and one brother, Mr. Dwight B. Coble. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Macedonia Lutheran Church. Burial will follow at Coble’s Lutheran Church Cemetery. The Rev. Stephen Rust, pastor, will officiate. The family will receive friends at Rich and Thompson Mortuary from 6 to 8 tonight. Memorials may be made to the Organ Fund at Macedonia Lutheran Church, 421 W. Front St., Burlington, N.C., 27215 or to the charity of one’s choice.
