Jasper, called Redden, was a well-known veteran of the American Revolution. He fought with Francis Marion, known as "The Swamp Fox." He enlisted during 1775, as a sergeant under Capt. Moses Gordon and Col. Richard Richardson. In 1776 and 1778, he was drafted under unnamed officers. During 1779, he was drafted under Capt. Nathaniel Moore and Col. Singleton. In addition, he served under Capt. Ingram and Col. Hammond. He was in the battle at Briar Creek, the siege of Augusta and the siege of Savannah. After the Fall of Charleston, he volunteered under Capt. John Neilson and Col. Marion. He was in the skirmish at Black Mingo and in the battles at Shubrick's Plantation, Scots Lake Fort, Fort Motte, Simon's Plantation, Quinby Bridge and in numerous skirmishes.

Redden and Susan Jane Pringle McCoy are buried in a small cemetery on Brewington Road, Sumter Co., SC. If you leave the town of Sumter, SC, on Hwy 378, take a right on Brewington Rd., and the cemetery is located on the right in a small copse of trees in the back of a white house, only about a quarter of a mile from the intersection. This was for many years the property of Mr. Fincher and sits next to the old Mayewood High School. The cemetery is called several names, but is best identified by direction. The grave markers are old, but some can be read by using your fingertips on the letters. The DAR and some descendents placed a new marked for Redden McCoy, but there are several others that need new ones. One of Susan's brothers, John Pringle, and his wife Elizabeth Newman Pringle, are buried there also. See Redden McCoy's grave marker at FindAGrave.
