1848 - Jane was tried at Sussex on 22 September 1848 and received 10 years for stealing 4/6. Her documents state that she was aged 17 (although she was 15), a nursemaid, 4' 11 1/4" tall, could read and write, was single and her native place was Brighton. She had freckles, yellow and red hair, greyish hazel eyes, small nose and small mouth. Her family members were named as: father - John, mother - Sarah, brother - James, sisters - Mary, Ellen, Rosetta (probably Rhoda), Harriette in London.

1849 - Jane was transported on Stately which left Woolwich on 16 May 1849 and arrived in VDL on 2 September 1849, a voyage of 109 days. 169 female convicts embarked and of those 163 disembarked. The master was Thos Ginder and the surgeon was Jn W Elliott.
