Wife of James Ryan, she is probably one of the twelve White members of James Ryan's household in the 1782 Virginia Heads of Families census. This would indicate to me that there were ten children at that point, or perhaps fewer children within an extended family situation. Per a Malcolm family story, Jane and James were supposedly killed by Indians when their children, Mary and Edward, were small, but Indian conflicts in the area ceased after the Battle of Point Pleasant on 10 October 1774.

The only Jane Ryan I have found is Jane McConnel Rowan/Roan/Rion/Ryan, who married James Rowan 30 March 1771 at First Presbyterian Church, Philadelphia, PA. Since ancestors migrated to Mineral County, WV's area from the north, I put even more stock on this being our "Jane Ryan." People couldn't spell even surnames back then.
