Utica Observer-Dispatch, 18 Nov 2006: Mrs. Jane Trosset Steates of New Hartford-- Mrs. Jane Trosset Steates, age 78, of New Hartford, passed away at her home November 17, 2006 with her three children by her side, after a long illness. Jane was born February 27, 1928, in Utica, NY, the daughter of Harold Trosset and Janet Ferris Trosset. She attended Utica Free Academy and Lake Erie College of Painseville, Ohio. She worked as a supervisor in the business office of the New York Telephone Company, and after her marriage, became a loving and caring homemaker. She married her beloved husband, Francis C. Steates, on July 26, 1952, who predeceased her in 1999 after a marriage of 48 years. Jane tirelessly cared for her husband during his lengthy final illness. Jane's passion was music, and she participated in many high school and church choirs during her life. She was a member of the Junior League and various PTA organizations, and was a longtime member of the Westminister Presbyterian Church. The most important activity in her life was providing loving care to her husband, children, and grandchildren. The family home was always a neighborhood meeting place where her children and friends were always welcome. She leaves her family with fond memories of family vacations in Cape Cod and Florida. Jane is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Patricia Gallivan of Syracuse, NY, and Janet and Robert Clendaniel of Slaughter Beach, Delaware; one son and daughter-in-law, F. Paul and Alison Steates, of New Hartford; eleven adoring grandchildren, Richard and Timothy Gallivan, and their father, Robert Gallivan, Erin, Rebecca, Stephanie, and Robert Clendaniel, Lauren, Robert, Andrew, Katherine, and Emily Steates; twin brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Patricia Trosset of Rockledge, Florida; .... She was predeceased by her loving stepmother, Jane Wilkinson; and sister-in-law, Mary Jones. ... A private family service will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.
