Parents are uncertain; however, there was a Richard Bennett who was made a "pathmaster" in Schaghticoke in 1789 (at the first town meeting). He was probably born about 1760.

Kevin Franklin of Colonie, NY, reports the following:
"I don't know exactly how early the Bennett name appears in our local history, or what association the family has with early Rensselaer County History. I do know the Bennett name is associated with the livestock trade of West Albany in Albany County, and have recently discovered the name associated with some sort of building on a map of the area once associated with raising of livestock in what is now the Village of Menands, Albany County, N.Y., but I have not had the chance to delve into it farther. You might wish to contact the Rensselear County Historical Society and perhaps they would have additional information about Bennett's of Schodack. You will find the Bennett name associated with land in Stephentown, Rensselaer Co., and in Albany County. The name also appears to be associated with the early history of "Canastagione", or that area along both sides of the Mohawk River between what is now Colonie and Niskayuna in Albany County and Clifton Park in Saratoga County. The New York State Library has the original land lease records in their special collections and manuscripts section."

This is probably our Andrew Sharp and Jane.

  2.   All the children marry in Ashtabula, Ohio (except Robert, who marries in Trumbull County, Ohio and Joseph who marries in Wyandot) between 1827 and 1850. The entire family was probably living in Ashtabula or Trumbull during these years. Trumbull is the county just south of Ashtabula.
