[edit] ObituaryJames C. "Jim" Zirkle, 86, died at 4:40 a.m. Oct. 8, 2008, at St. Rita's Medical Center. He was born March 1, 1922, in Tippecanoe, Ind., to Paul and Gladys F. Calvert Zirkle, who preceded him in death. On March 28, 1943, at the First Presbyterian Church, Middle Point, he married Lois Irene Ringwald, who died March 10, 2005. Mr. Zirkle was a lifelong farmer and hauled and sold fertilizer and seeds. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Middle Point, for several years. He was a member of Van Wert County Farm Bureau and a supporter of the 4-H and Future Farmers of America. He was a 64-year member of Acadia Lodge 306 Free & Accepted Masons, Spencerville. He was a 1940 graduate of York High School. He had been living at VanCrest Assisted Living Center, Delphos, since April. Survivors include three children, Janet (Bob) Zuber, of Spencerville, Richard Zirkle, of Van Wert, and Beth (Richard) Clement, of Venedocia; six grandchildren, Jody (Teresa) Zuber, of Littleton, Colo., Denise (Jim) Davis, of Van Wert, Billy (Joe) Brenneman, of Spencerville, Steve (Angie) Zirkle, of New Bremen, Brian (Gina) Clement, of Augusta, Ga., and Kimberly (Paul) Sadler, of St. Marys; 14 great-grandchildren; a stepgreat-grandchild; three stepgreat-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Virginia Zirkle, of Ottawa, and Marjorie Robinson, of Severna Park, Md.; six sisters-in-law, Becky Zirkle, of Venedocia, Edith Kundert, of Delphos, Helen (John) Stutz, of Venedocia, Mary Lou Butler, of Van Wert, Virginia Ringwald, of Delano, Minn., and Juanita Ringwald, of Van Wert; and two brothers-in-law, William (Della Rae) Ringwald, of Fort Mead, Fla., and Clarence (Carol) Ringwald, of Van Wert. He was preceded in death by a great-grandson; two brothers, Robert and infant Woodrow Zirkle; a sister-in-law, Rosella Ringwald; and five brothers-in-law, Robert Robinson, Ralph and John Ringwald, Paul Butler and Eugene Kundert. Services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home, Spencerville. Glenn Hux, his nephew, will officiate. Burial will be in Wright Cemetery, near Converse. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, where a Masonic service will be held at 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Delphos Visiting Nurses Association or the charity of the donor's choice.
