James was born in Toronto, Canada as were all of his brothers and sisters. He may have moved to Chicago with his family about 1881. He was raised on the near west side of Chicago near UnionPark around Ashland and Washington. This is near the presentday United Center.This is the same area where he met his future wife Jessie. She lived in the area that is present day Univ. of Ill. Chicago. It is said that he had he two front teeth knocked out in a fight as an adolescent. Prior to this he played the trombone but afterward he couldn't. However the later played drums in the Garfield Military Band. He Did machine tool work and other work. Was also a movie projectionist at one time. He defied unionization efforts among the projectionists and got physically beaten up. This reportedly didn't stop him. He is buried in Mt. Auburn cemetery, Stickney Il.

  3. Joseph O. married Eleanor Alspaugh 12 Dec 1943. They had no children.
  4. George married Gertrude Bennett 8 Jul 1944. Their only child was Robert Bennett.
  5. Robert Thomas married Geneva Jensen 11 Jul 1931. Their children were Lois and Michael.
  6. Willard James married Gail Beekman 25 Apr1988. Their children were Sara and Ellen.
  7. Jesse Robinson married Fay Kimball 1 Jul 1938. Their children were Paul, Roberta, Jane, John, William and Patrick.
  8. Perry Fredrick married Jean Woodruff on 15 Jun 1947. Their children were Steven, Betsy, Barbara, Susan, Michael, Laura, and Joseph.
