The memorial includes a digital image of the obituary from the Glasgow Times, 11 May 1921:
“James P. Tolle died at his home in Oklahoma City, Okla., on the 27th of April, 1921. He was stricken with paralysis December 23, 1918, losing the use of his whole left side. Later he got so he could get about the house and yard with the aid of a cane. On February 28, 1919, he fell by the side of his bed and fractured his left hip and left shoulder which was his paralyzed side, since which time he had been entirely helpless and suffered a great deal until relieved by death.
“Of his intimate family he left his wife (the second) and one son. He also left one sister, Mrs. Cynthia Nickols, of the Elbow Springs country in Barren county, and one brother, Mr. S. H. Tolle, of Taylorville, Ill.; and many other relatives and friends.
“Mr. Tolle was born November 28, 1831, and consequently nearly 90 years old at his death. He was raised five and a half miles from Glasgow out the Burkesville road. His early life was spent in farming and school teaching. —W. D. Tolle”
