Will Transcript
- I James Thompson of Hampshire County and State of Virginia being in perfect health Sound memmory and reason calling to mind the mortality of man do make constitute acknowledge and Sign this my last Will and Testament ~ and touching my worldly goods property and possessions to be disposed of in the following manner to wit
- 1st I give and bequeath unto my Wife Elizabeth Thompson a full third part of all my Lands during her life ~ after her decease, the Sd. above named third
- I give and bequeath to my daughter Rebeccah Thompson until Isaac Thompson pays Sd. Rebeccah Thompson two hundred dollars
- My personal property to be disposed of at public Sale
- I likewise and bequeath to my wife Elizabeth Thompson one third part of the sale amt of Sd. personal property ~
- I likewise give and bequeath to my Son Isaac Thompson all my Real Estate after the death of his Father and Mother by his taking good care of them ~ Except such Legacies here after mentioned
- Likewise the Sd. Isaac Thompson shall pay my son John Thompson fifty dollars one year after his Fathers and Mothers death ~ the Sd. Isaac Thompson shall pay Rhoda Stone one dollar ~ and likewise shall pay Sarah Johnson one dollar, ~
- and as for my two sons Abraham and James Thompson they have Already received their full share of their Legacies ~
- I likewise give and bequeath unto Tempa Harris, Mary Carter and Sarah Ann Linthecum My Granddaughter the balance of my Personal property to be Equally Divided &c.
- I hereby appoint Albert Carter and William Horsman Executors of this my last Will and Testament Revoking all former Wills by me made ~
- In Witness Whereof I have hereunto Set my hand and Seal this 27 day of September in the year of Our Lord ~ 1841

- Signed Sealed and published and delivered by the above named James Thompson to be his last Will and Testament ~ in the presents of us Who have hereunto Subscribed Our names as Witnessess in the presents of the testator.

- At a Court held in Hampshire County the 26th day of August 1844 This Last will and Testament of James Thompson decd. was presented in court proved by the oaths of Amos Huffman and Joseph Huffman Jr. witnesses thereto & ordered to be recorded. And on motion of Albert Carter one of the executors therein named who made oath thereto according to law, Certificate is granted him for obtaining a probate thereof in due form upon his giving security whereupon he with William Doran, Isaac H. Thompson & William J. Monroe his securities entered into and acknowledged bond in the penalty of fifteen hundred dollars conditioned as the law directs (said securities being justified according to law)
