James Semple of Stockholm died by 1678. His family in dispute over the transfer of his estate in Sweden. His closest male relatives were Sir William Semple of Cathcart who was his first cousin, once removed and James Thomson, a cousin through Semple’s mother. The Stockholm magistrates required proof of the relationship before transferring the estate. Sir William Semple and James Thomson applied to the Scottish Privy Council for support in providing proof.
