- Rutherford, James, born 4/26/1757 in Frederick County, Virginia, where entered service 1777 in virginia regiment as wagonmaster; applied for pension 1833 in Sumner County, Tennessee; Pension Application Rejected since service not considered military; died there 4/9/1838; married 2/12/1791 to Elizabeth Cartwright, Davidson County, Tennessee; widow received Pension abt. age 71 in Sumner County, Tennessee 1847; soldier's brother Thomas made affidavit then Davidson County, Tennessee, soldier's service was truly military,; Jordan Wileford made affidavit abt age 91 in Rutherford County, Tennessee, 1849 he served in Revolutionary War with soldier; soldier's sons Thomas W. & Benjamin S. made affidavit Sumner County, Tennessee 1852, when widow's brother James Cartwright made affidavit there abt. age 82; widow granted Bounty Land Warrant 5208 there 1855 abt. age 79.
