134.B James R.4 RITTGERS (Tobias3, John, Jr.2, John1). He was the son of Tobias RITTGERS an d Phebe WILLIAMS. This name is given with the children of Tobias and Phebe (Williams) Rittge rs in the family records. He has not been found on the census with the family, nor are ther e any other children who could be this person. No birth date given, but must be before abou t 1870 for him to marry and father a child before the death date given . We have the censu s records of Tobias and Phoebe from 1850-1880 and there is never a James listed. He married L aura ALLEN abt. 1884. The 1890 census is lost to us due to a fire in Washington before it cou ld be copied, so we have no idea where James and Laura were at that time. James died 26 Dec 1 890 in Oh. In 1900 we find Laura E. Rittgers, 35, b. June 1864, and widowed, a servant- hous e keeper to Patric (poor writing but appears to be) Ferrites and his family. They are in Rus h Creek Twp., Fairfield Co., Oh. Laura declares that she has born 3 children, one alive at t his time. She also reports her father born in Virginia and her mother in Oh.(ED 21, p 85, fa m #94/94) Her son, Elmer is working on a nearby farm.
