Obituary of James Medford Poore Sr. as written in "The Camilla Enterprise" dated 25 Mar 1955. Funeral services for James Medford Poore Sr., 57, were held Saturday, 19 Mar 1955, afternoon at the First Baptist Church in Camilla with the Rev Otis Glover and Rev Charles Duncan, pastor, officiating. Burial was in Oakview cemetery with Masonic services at graveside. Serving as pall bearers were: Leo Bateman, N. W. Green, Earl Doster, all of Camilla. E. B. Beasley of Sale City, Leon Bishop of Moultrie and Leonard Eubanks of Pelham. Bramlett Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Mr. Poore died at his home late Thursday, 17 Mar 1955, of a heart ailment from which he suffered the past year or more. He was born and reared in Mitchell County, the son of Mrs. Emma Poore and the late Martin Poore. He was a graduate of Atlanta Law School and veteran of World War I. He held wide farming interest and was a pulpwood operator in Camilla and Moultrie. He was a member of the Camilla Masonic Lodge, the Commandery of Moultrie, Hasan Shrine Temple of Albany, and a charter member of Post 141 of the American Legion. Survivors include his mother, Mrs. Emma Poore, his wife, the former Ouida Cox; one son, James Medford Poore Jr.; one sister, Mrs. Gus Carrera of Felton, Cal.; two brothers, Lorraine Poore of Leesburg, Fla. and Neufville Poore of Atlanta.
