The Dunnville Charonicle Oct 31 1924 James E. Ortt James E. Ortt, younger son of Mr. and Mrs. D. P. Ortt, passed away at North Battleford, Sask., of heart failure, on Thursday night, Oct 23rd 1924, in his 41st year. Deceased was born at the old homestead on Ortt Road, and after residing at Caistor Centre a few years, he went to Paynton, Sask., about twelve years ago to homestead. When he became ill, he went to the hospital at North Battleford, where death ensued. He married Ella Smith of Caistor, Centre, who died about eight years ago and they leave two sons, Gerald and Morley. He also leaves besides his parents, one brother, H. A. Ortt of Charing Cross, Ont. Hisremains arrived at his mother's residence here on Wednesday, and the funeral takes place this Friday afternoon at 1 o'clock. After service at the house. interment will take place in the U. B. Cemetery at Winslow. Research by Fred Ortt in Cayuga Archives. According to Fred Ortt's notes, James also married Martha Nellie Mitchell on Jan 26, 1915 in Paynton, Saskatchewan and they had one daughter, Ruth Ortt, born 1916, but this info is not reflected in the obit. Plus also, Fred shows Ella's death date as 1918, which is after the second marriage. |
