James Morehead Name:   Robert Morehead Date Posted:   Jul 9, 04 - 12:36 PM Email:   [email protected] Message:   Looking for any and all information on my great-great grandfather, James Morehead, youngest son of Jedediah Morehead and Rebecca Hartley, born 1845 or 1846. Jedediah was an early pioneer hunter and trapper who squatted here and there around the bog in Auburn Township and environs. He eventually bought land and settled on a large farm just west of Shelby. I'm interested in anything, but specifically, I am looking for: 1) Is my James the same Richland County James Morehead listed as serving under Capt. Saltzberger in Co. F, 14th Ohio Volunteer Infantry in the Civil War? 2) James married Elizabeth Stewart in Troy, Miami County in 1865. Was she a Cherokee? We were always told we were descended from one of five Cherokee brothers who fled the Trail of Tears, but I've traced the family line all the way back to Scotland in the middle ages. If there's an Indian, it had to have been her and her kin, but I haven't found anything on her family. 3) He and his family moved to Shiloh and he clearly died young. The 1880 census shows him as "Occupation - Idle." Why was he unemployed and how did he die?

Also, any other information on this family would be interesting. Thank you! http://pub28.bravenet.com/forum/2339196106/fetch/401056/
