James Andrew McGuffin was born on 29 Jul 1782 in Ireland. He came to the US in Nov of 1783 with his family. They settled in South Carolina, and he married Anice Jolly in 1804 in Pendleton, Anderson, South Carolina, and they had 12 children. They continued to live in that area, although the name of the community had changed to Pickens, South Carolina, by 1850. After Anice died in 1853, he married in Burnette Mason in 1856. He died on 08 Jun 1869 and by then the community was called Oconee, South Carolina.
