James and Elinor with their four surviving children namely, Thomas, Hugh, David and John, immigrated to Australia on the Clipper Ship "James Baines", leaving Liverpool in December 1854 and arriving in Melbourne, February 1855. James and his Family then set out for the rich pastoral lands of Warrnambool, Victoria, and took up land holding, the estate was known as "Sea View", near Dennington. He remained there for the whole of his 90 year life. Ref. Obituaries from the "Warrnambool Standard" Newspaper.
