Name James Maitland
Gender Male
Marriage to Christian Booth

James Maitland’s origins have yet to be established. His first confirmed sighting is in 1777, by which time he was married to Christian Booth and living at Daviot in Aberdeenshire.

Between 1777 and 1795 James and Christian had nine children baptised at Daviot, including twins in 1786. The children’s baptisms all record that the family lived at the farm or small hamlet of Pitblain, just north-east of the village.

James has yet to be traced after the baptism of his youngest child in 1795. Deaths and burials were not recorded at Daviot until the 1820s. James’s son John’s death certificate from 1863 described James as having been a farmer.
