Christian Booth’s origins have yet to be established. Her first confirmed sighting is in 1777, by which time she was married to a farmer called James Maitland and living at Daviot in Aberdeenshire.

Between 1777 and 1795 Christian and James had nine children baptised at Daviot, including twins in 1786. The children’s baptisms all record that the family lived at the farm or small hamlet of Pitblain, just north-east of the village.

Christian has yet to be traced after the baptism of her youngest child in 1795. Deaths and burials were not recorded at Daviot until the 1820s.
